St James Restaurant and Bar, Crouch End

2nd June 2009, 10:06am

WeLoveCrouchEnd.co.uk competition winner Kathryn Reed writes on her recent visit to St James Restaurant and Bar in Crouch End, with (predictably) the Toblerone cheesecake being the major success of the night....

With a successful restaurant already in Bushey, the owners of St James have moved further into London for this second venture.

Situated just off Middle Lane, St James looks at first like a style-conscious bar; the front room is all stainless steel, spotlights and mirrored walls. Yet take a seat in the restaurant at the rear and you’ll feel much more at home, thanks to the wood floors and white wall décor. There’s also an outdoor area for those who like to dine al fresco.

We ordered from the A La Carte Menu. The chicken liver & duck foie gras terrine starter was melt-in-the-mouth gorgeous – ditto the chorizo-garnished scallops.

Our main course (we both ended up plumping for rack of lamb with dauphinoise potato) was generous and satisfying. The highlight, though, was the Toblerone cheesecake desert. It sounds like it could be a disaster, but turns out to be chocolatey, creamy goodness well worth saving room for.
