Attack on Crouch End bus provokes police patrol
Police are to patrol buses after a teenage girl travelling on a W5 bus in Crouch End was assaulted for challenging bullies who were trying to steal a phone.
The attempted robbery was the latest in a spate of thefts on the buses in Crouch End.
From next week, plain clothed officers will ride on the buses in an attempt to catch offenders in the act.
The 15-year-old girl was punched in the face by a teenage boy after confronting a gang of six youths who grabbed her friend's phone.
In the same week, two more passengers fell victim to mobile phone thieves, on the W7 and the W3 routes.
Uniformed officers will also patrol routes W3, W5 and W7 for the next few weeks, and the safer transport team will also look into ways of improving bus safety in the longer term.
